10 Jul 2006 - Pupils Pass Cycle Proficiency Test
After a series of practical and theory sessions, including two hours of instruction from Commisar Hinze of the German State Police , 9 pupils of Weser School Hameln successfully completed their Lower Saxony State Cycling Prufung ( Cycling Proficiency Test).
On Monday 10th July they met with over 500 other year 5 and 6 pupils from Stadt Hameln
and they were tested on their cycle control skills and a their road sense over a course around Hameln Town Centre. The Cycling Prufung is part of the State Curriculum for all Year 5 pupils and
before taking the test the pupils had to complete a theory test on general road safety , sign recognition and rules relating to priority use of the road.
On the day Chloe Tongue was the first of the British pupils away and although very nervous she managed to complete the road course with only 2 mistakes and then completed the skill test with four penalty points.
While the test may have been strange to the pupils they were guided through it by their instructor , teacher Tony Chester, who first steered pupils through the test 15 years ago. After a final check to see that their cycles were street legal all pupils he presented them with the ?Licences?.
Weser school will be incorporating the test into their Year 5 PSHE curriculum and hope it furthers their plans to embed the school into the local community.
